
Aterlier A.B.D. architecture and project office was founded by ing. arch. Darek Dupal (* 1964 České Budějovice) and ing. arch. Vladimír Bidlo (* 1965 Prague).
Both partners, who are graduates of the Czech University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture, in Prague (1982-1988), got together in 1988 in the SURPMO Prague studio in Žižkov (working on building reconstruction projects in Malá Strana – Jánský vršek in the studio of ing. Steiner and ing. Krausová) and they subsequently worked together in the architect Heinz Lemberger’s office in Vienna (arch. Dupal 1989 – 1992, arch. Bidlo 1990 – 1994) where they collaborated on a number of projects in Austria and abroad (the reconstruction and completion of a building on Getreidemarkt - Vienna, Dornermarkt shopping centre – Vienna, Bratislava shopping centre, Tanzschule Dorner – Vienna, the competition for EXPO 92 Vienna, Austria’s stands at exhibitions in Poznan, Poland and Moscow, a spa hotel in Semmerink and a number of loft conversion projects).
In 1994 they set up the Atelier A.B.D. association, which in 1997 was transformed into a limited liability company. The company is currently based at number 17, Spálená Street in Prague 1. It is mainly involved in drawing up architectural designs and complete project work for administrative, residential, business, industrial and medical buildings, interior design and implementation, reconstruction and revitalisation of buildings, urbanism and town planning, construction management, furniture design, project visualisation and applied graphics. The company currently has 7 employees (mainly architects) and 5 external colleagues and it works with ArchiCad and AutoCAD software.
Among its most significant projects have been the Goldbeck business and administrative building in Prague 5 – Stodůlky, the administrative Westgate Center in Prague 13 – Nové Butovice, the Euned Park K2 administrative building in Prague 6 - Vokovice, the reconstruction and completion of the Koospol administration premises in Prague 6, a new residential building in Prague 5 – Smíchov, the new Dům Bible in Prague 8, the completion of the Ziegler manufacturing estate in Nýřany u Plžně, an administrative and shopping centre for Kinnarps in Čestlice, a project for a new town centre in Taos in New Mexico (USA), a branch of Volksbank on Na Příkopech Street in Prague 1, work on the reconstruction and completion of a branch of Raiffeissenbank in the centre of České Budějovice, the reconstruction and interiors of a branch of Interbank on Wenceslas Square in Prague 1, a chemist’s and medical centre in České Budějovice, business premises in Plzeň, Pardubice, Bratislava, a number of apartment and residential buildings – primarily reconstructions and loft conversions in Prague 1, 2 and 5 and a number of interiors for shops (Benetton, Creation Stummer, Alex travel agency…), banks (Volksbank, Bank Austria-Creditanstalt, Interbanka…) and private buildings (apartments and villas).
The studio has also taken part in a number of competitions – for example, the design of a pavilion for Expo 2000 in Hannover (3rd place), a community care building in Písek, the regeneration of the river bank in Český Krumlov, interiors for ČMSS in Prague 2, etc.
Over the course of time Atelier A.B.D. has worked on projects with a number of foreign and Czech architects (Heinz Lemberger – Vienna, Austria, Zellinger und Partner – Linz, Austria, Lohan Associates – Chicago, USA, Ranný architects, etc.) and construction and project companies (Goldbeck – Bielefeld, Germany, Obermayer AS – Prague- Munich, Germany, Skanska, Metrostav, etc.).
